SOOAH KIM

Born in Seoul, Korea, violinist Soo Ah Kim began her violin study at an early age of six, and since then she has been active as a violinist in Korea and abroad. Miss Kim attended the most prestigious music schools in Korea, the Seoul Arts High School and the Seoul National University College of Music where she studied with Kwang-Goon Kim and E-Jung Kim. Now she is studying in the Artist Diploma program at Colburn Conservatory of Music under the guidance of Mr. Robert Lipsett.

Among Miss Kim's many musical accomplishments are top prizes at the Strad Music Competition in 2001, the Korean-German Brahms Competition in 2002, and most recently the Korean International Music Foundation Music Competition held in Los Angeles in 2005. Currently she is serving as the concertmaster of the American Youth Symphony and the Colburn Conservatory Orchestra.

Miss Kim frequently performs as a soloist and chamber musician in music festivals including the Sarasota Music Festival,  Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, Taos School of Music, Sydney Pan Pacific Music Festival, the Korean Young Artist Music Festival, the Denia Curs Internasional de Musica Festival, and the Kum Ho Young Musicians Series. In addition, she has performed in masterclasses for distinguished musicians, including the Zhakar Bron, Cho-Liang Lin, Michelle Kim, James Buswell, and Joseph Silverstein.  

Miss Kim plays on a rare violin made by Alessandro Gagliano in 1708, which is loaned to her from a generous and anonymous donor.
