Gamelan Ensemble

The exotic sounds of Indonesia are highlighted in a concert by the UCSB

instruments. A standard ensemble may consist of gongs, kempuls, kenongs,
sarons, bonangs, gender, rehbab, kendhung, and sometimes vocals (which
are meant to blend with the music.) The UCSB Gamelan Ensemble is part of
the UCSB Music Department and gives students the opportunity experience
this Javanese Gamelan tradition. |

“The
festival billed the event as a family concert, put it on in the

PERCUSSION FESTIVAL
GRAND FINALE
Santa Barbara Symphony
with Colin Currie

Colin Currie
sets the rhythm for the
Percussion Festival's Grand Finale with
the
Santa Barbara
Symphony
Thrill
in the magic of Dave Maric's Trilogy for solo percussion and the
West Coast premiere of Jennifer Higdon’s Percussion Concerto.
What can compliment such an energetic program? None other than
Beethoven's majestic Symphony No. 4.
"Ms. Higdon
aims to please in her colorful, propulsive
and unabashedly accessible 25-minute concerto. The performance elicited a
cheering ovation for the extraordinary percussion soloist, Colin Currie,
and for the composer."
