The Santa Barbara Youth Symphony, Junior Strings and String Workshop students are featured in this special outdoors Children's Concert at the Santa Barbara Zoo! Bring the whole family for a fun day of animals and music! The Music Van (aka our instrument petting zoo) will be there for kids (and adults too) to try out different instruments.

Derived from the famous ballet “The Three-Cornered Hat”, this orchestral suite brings thrilling Andalusian folk music to the stage. And Bizet's Carmen is re-scored by Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin. With Daugherty and Moncayo, you will hear colorful and bright contemporary music led by guest conductor, Carlos Miguel Prieto, famed for his dynamism, and rising Canadian violin star, Alexandre Da Costa.

Experience this exciting collaboration of the Santa Barbara Symphony and Santa Barbara Choral Society in the famous "Coronation" Mass, one of Mozart’s most radiating works, sparkling with color and energetic drive. The Mass is complemented by Tchaikovsky’s Serenade, a beautiful homage to Mozart’s serenades, and the Study for String Orchestra by Pavel Haas was written during World War II in the Terezin concentration camp.

The season closes with a new composition by Grammy® award-winning Argentinean composer, Osvaldo Golijov--a mixture of melancholy and optimism, followed by Mozart's Concerto for Horn No. 2, a chase between the orchestra and the soloist. In closing, delight in Dvořák's warm, spontaneous symphonic masterpiece full of poetic moments and exuberant folk music.
