Pablo Sáinz Villegas
The Santa Barbara Symphony is proud to welcome guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas as our inaugural Artist-in-Residence! You may remember Pablo’s 2016 appearance with the Symphony, which made such a lasting impression on us through his extraordinary musicianship, warm personality and deep commitment to music education and community outreach. We are thrilled for the opportunity to work with Pablo again not only onstage, but also offstage through our mission to better serve and become an indispensable partner within our community.
Pablo will be featured in Spanish Guitar as part of our 2017-18 concert season, and then return in January 2018 to host Concerts for Young People—a free concert series designed for young listeners. This season, Concerts for Young People will span 2 days and 4 performances with an expected attendance of over 5,000 elementary school students from all over Santa Barbara County. With Maestro Nir Kabaretti’s vision paired with Pablo’s artistry, Concerts for Young People will encompass music from around the world with a dual language presentation in English and Spanish.
Following Concerts for Young People, Pablo will make visits to elementary schools in the Santa Barbara Unified School District. These visits aim to bring a world-class artist directly to young musicians, who will have the opportunity to talk and ask questions. This will give nearly 1,000 students the opportunity to see Pablo both as an onstage performer and to interact closely with him.
Letter from Pablo
Music is a journey through our imagination; it is a journey to the most intimate part of our emotions where we connect with what we really are and with others. Music creates a magical experience that allows a feeling of discovery, of being present in the moment and of belonging as part of a great community.
I am very excited about my upcoming artist-in-residence program with you and the Santa Barbara Symphony during the 2017/18 season. I am eager to offer the best of myself and to inspire through the six strings of my guitar. I look forward to discovering, being present and belonging to a community that already makes me feel so close to my roots of my beloved country, Spain.
I am counting the days to start this adventure together. Join me and become the star of this exciting journey!
The artist-in-residence program is made possible by the Elaine F. Stepanek Foundation.
